Tsurutsuru Onsen

Natural Hot Spring Water Pumped Up From 1500m Underground
"Tsurutsuru Onsen" (Tsurutsuru hot spring) has a high alkalinity concentration in the water, which helps make your skin smooth and is famous for its "Bijin-No-Yu” (Beauty hot spring).

The pH, which represents the concentration of hydrogen ions in an aqueous solution, is expressed on a scale of 0 to 14. The pH of "Tsurutsuru Onsen" is an impressive 10.0! Generally, water with a pH of less than 3 is acidic, and water with a pH of 8.5 or higher is alkaline. It is said that the more acidic the water is, the more germicidal it is, and the more alkaline it is, the more sebum dirt dissolves from the skin. The viscous water dissolves the sebum on your skin, leaving it smooth.
At the end of the hiking trail, is the “Tsurutsuru Onsen”
Hinode-machi, where Tsurutsuru Onsen is located, has several popular hiking trails.
Among them, the trail that starts from Mitake Station on the JR Ome Line, leading to Mitake Shrine, and then ascending Mt. Hinode is particularly popular. It is a 3-to-4-hour hiking trail that ends at Tsurutsuru Onsen.
We did not have the chance to hike the trail, so we took the bus from the station. However, enjoying an onsen after a long day of hiking would be the perfect way to relax.
Reception & Lobby
Yukata robes can be borrowed for free at the reception. On the first floor, there is a large lobby, a dining room, private rooms, and a lounge. On the second floor, there is an onsen and a spa.
In addition, Tsurutsuru Onsen is a hot spring that permits entry for individuals with tattoos.
Finding an onsen in Japan that accepts tattoos can sometimes be challenging, so it was a pleasant surprise to discover that this place welcomes guests with body art.
Bijin-No-Yu (Beauty Hot Spring)
Men can bathe in the Japanese-style Bijin-No-Yu on odd-numbered days, while women can bathe on even-numbered days. The Bijin-No-Yu outdoor bath has two bathtubs.
The indoor bath is incredibly spacious and feels quite luxurious. However, the real highlight is the outdoor baths! Bathing outside in any season is an incredible experience. The hot water relaxes your body while the open air helps you cool down.
You can have a relaxing time here, breathing in the fresh air created by the trees of Hinode-machi.

Shogai-Seishun-No-Yu (Forever Youth Hot Spring)
Men can bathe in the Western-style Shogai-Seishun-No-Yu on even-numbered days, while women can do so on odd-numbered days. The bath is surrounded by bamboo, enhancing its extraordinary ambiance. The effects of the "Tsurutsuru Onsen" are said to include relieving chronic muscle or joint pain, poor circulation, peripheral circulatory disorders, decreased gastrointestinal function, hemorrhoids, fatigue, and improved health.
The indoor bath at Shogai-Seishun-No-Yu was as beautiful as the Bijin-No-Yu-Onsen. The rocks and vegetation that surrounded the bath always make me think of Zen gardens and allow my mind to drift away. I also appreciate the alternating schedule for men and women to use the baths on different days.

Sauna
After the sauna, it's nice to sit back on the bench in the open-air bath, breathe in the fresh air, and spend some relaxing time. Please remember to rinse the sweat after the sauna before entering the onsen again.
Lockers & Washroom
Lockers are available free of charge. The bathroom is equipped with shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. Additionally, there are hair dryers in the washroom.
The locker room was very convenient and practical. After leaving all your belongings there, you can change into a yukata and head to the resting area or restaurant. After a break, you can return to the onsen, allowing you to enjoy a full day of relaxation!
Panorama Restaurant
The tables are arranged around a large 130-year-old tree in the center, and the restaurant is bathed in sunlight filtered through the trees, giving the feeling that you are dining in nature.
The panorama restaurant was truly beautiful, with expansive views through the large windows. I particularly enjoyed sitting at the counter encircling the pillar crafted from the old tree in the center.
The Great Hall
In the 175m² spacious hall, we enjoyed Tsurutsuru Onsen's specialty, the Houbayaki set meal. The Wagyu beef (Akigawa beef) in the "Houbayaki set meal" was very tender and paired perfectly with the Houba miso, creating a delicious combination!
Who would have thought you could try Wagyu beef in an onsen facility? The unique cooking method, on a leaf slowly heated by a candle, added an interesting touch to the experience.
Private Rooms
There are three private rooms (available for an additional fee) that are spacious and can accommodate up to six people per room.
One of the highlights to enjoy is the exclusive food menu that is only available in the private rooms.
The price is 1,300 yen per hour, and reservations are required.

Rest Area
There is also a free resting space. This room is twice as large as the private rooms, allowing you to relax after your bath. I loved the tatamis in the common resting area. They allow you to cool down after the hot bath, and it’s the best place to wait for your friends and family members to regroup.

Before the treatment, the therapist will ask you some questions to determine what to expect and your Ayurvedic constitution. The massage was gentle yet firm, and I could feel the energy returning to my body.
It is the perfect addition to forest therapy and onsen day.

From the anime [Demon Slayer] Himejima Gyomei's birthplace "Mt. Hinode"
Mt. Hinode, with an altitude of 902 meters, is situated on the border between Ome City and Hinode-machi in Tokyo. It is located next to Mt. Mitake, a popular hiking destination.
The view from the summit of Mt. Mitake, which is about an hour hike, is spectacular. It offers a panoramic view of the Tokyo Skytree, skyscrapers, and the entire Kanto area.
Knowing that I will be able to immerse myself in the waters of Tsutsuru Onsen after hiking to Mt. Mitake is the only motivation I need. I will definitely come back!
Come and refresh your mind and body in the great outdoors of Hinode-machi!

Comment from the reporter!
・For those who are vegetarians, the onsen restaurant also had nice pescetarian and vegetarian options, such as a grilled eel on a rice dish, for example.
・The last entry to Tsutsuru onsen is at 7 p.m., so make sure not to arrive too late to fully enjoy all that the facility has to offer.
